Mukhriz claims there could be potential sabotage in PPBM hot seats

(MMO) – PPBM deputy president and Jerlun parliamentary candidate Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir today claimed there are efforts to sabotage Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) election campaign, especially in a few hot seats.

Mukhriz said he believes the hot seats include his own Jerlun constituency in Kedah, his father Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Langkawi seat and his party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s Pagoh seat in Johor.

“I can’t confirm it but based on intelligence that we received from our friends (in rival party Umno), there are three or four areas which will be the focus of sabotage acts. Among them are Langkawi, Jerlun and Pagoh as well as a few others.

“We are ready and prepared to face any eventuality. Spirits are high among our machinery to face any tactics that they try during the campaign period,” said Mukhriz.

He also voiced his regret that there was an alleged attempt to sabotage his father from flying to Langkawi yesterday.

However, the former Kedah mentri besar said he hoped that the “political temperature” will remain cool although he admitted it would be quite awkward to contest against his former colleagues.

“I’ve no qualms contesting against a former colleague and what it means is that I hope that the temperature during the campaign is kept at a cool level because it’s not like we don’t know each other,” he told reporters at the outskirts of today’s Nomination Day.

His Barisan Nasional (BN) rival Datuk Othman Aziz concurred with Mukhriz’s statement regarding a friendly contest between them but denied the latter’s suspicion regarding possible acts of sabotage.

“It’s unfortunate he (Mukhriz) has decided to be on the other side as we were together at one time. But then election is election; it’s not about individuals, it’s about the party and what the party can offer to the rakyat.

“So I concur with him that we should fight freely, squarely and leave it to the rakyat,” said Othman.

He then dismissed Mukhriz’s suspicions, saying it was only an act to gain sympathy votes.
