The opposition pact is struggling to stay relevant

GE14 is as much a struggle for power within DAP, PKR and PPBM — and within the opposition pact between DAP, PKR and PPBM — as it is about defeating Umno and Barisan Nasional. The next 12 days are going to determine who lives and who dies. One thing for sure, though, Najib is not going to die. He is going to sweep GE14 win an impressive win and leave the opposition pact eating dirt. And then the opposition pact is going to turn on one another and rip one another to shreds like injured wolves turning on one another.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

We freed ourselves from the British, but both Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) still use divide-and-rule strategies. This has allowed them to get away with having vague or no positions on most issues, whether it’s local council elections or whether taxes on the rich should be raised, because they just pander to their own ethnic group.

So, this sometimes results in totally contradictory positions within the same coalition. And yet, voters are expected to vote for the coalition as a whole, not the individual party.

If politicians were more honest, parties like Umno and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) should contest the elections on their own, against MCA and DAP, since they have different positions on vernacular education, for example.

Political parties should run in every seat in the country to prove that their platform is acceptable to all Malaysians. Let Umno and PPBM run in Damansara, or MCA and DAP in Kota Baru. All parties can contest against each other everywhere. Form a coalition with whoever only after the election.

The opposition pact disagrees on many issues and the ‘explosion’ will soon reveal this

Boo Su-Lyn’s comment (above) in the Malay Mail Online today more or less sums up the whole thing pretty well. Political parties are hiding behind the name of coalitions to hide their real agenda. For example, DAP, PKR, PPBM and PAN do not agree on many issues. But they do not openly declare their stand. They pretend they have a consensus when actually they do not agree on so many things.

And the differences in the opposition pact are beginning to show and are going to get worse as we get closer to the 14th General Election. The pact is so fragile it will not take much to demolish it. And internal conflicts are affecting the pact as a whole. For example, DAP Is being drawn in to the war between Team Azizah and Kartel Azmin and Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng are supporting Wan Azizah against Azmin. This is because Azmin is aligned to Mahathir while Kit Siang and Guan Eng are wary of what the old man will do if the opposition pact wins GE14.

Mahathir is DAP’s tool to attack Najib and to draw in Malay votes to trigger what Kit Siang hopes will be a Malay Tsunami

Of course, DAP needs Mahathir to trigger what they hope will be a Malay Tsunami. But they want Mahathir just as the trigger and that’s it. After that they want Mahathir gone and no longer around. It would be the end of the world if the opposition pact wins GE14 and Mahathir steps forward to take over as Prime Minister.

Kit Siang, for one, remembers what Lee Kuan Yew did to the Communists when they did a deal with PAP and formed a pact to fight in the Singapore general election. After they won, Kuan Yew rounded up all the Communists and detained them without trial. After that he ruled Singapore as a dictator and the opposition never had any hope again. Kit Siang knows this is what Mahathir will do as well. If they win GE14, Mahathir will turn on them and wipe them out. Mahathir will not allow a powerful DAP to hover over him and control what he does.

Mahathir ousted Abdullah because he could not be told what to do and now Mahathir is trying to oust Najib for the same reason

Mahathir did not hide the fact that the Prime Minister who takes over after Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will be ‘guided’ by a ‘Council of Elders’ headed by him. In short, Mahathir will be the de facto Prime Minister and the Prime Minister will be his puppet or proxy. He announced this openly and never hid this fact. And Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak revealed yesterday that his problems started when he refused to take instructions from Mahathir and do what Mahathir wanted him to.

Of course, Mahathir says he is opposing Najib because of 1MDB. 1MDB’s president and CEO, Arul Kanda Kandasamy, explained that 1MDB is not going bankrupt and neither has RM42 billion ‘disappeared into thin air’, as Mahathir said, which you can read below.

1MDB is just the excuse and justification to oust Najib. Mahathir needs an excuse and justification to oppose Najib so he is using the 1MDB issue as this excuse and justification. The real reason, however, is because Najib did not help Mukhriz win the Umno party elections in 2009 and 2013 and that dashed all hopes of Mukhriz ever becoming Prime Minister. It is all about making Mukhriz the Prime Minister.

Kit Siang knew that Mahathir was very desperate and frustrated and would be a useful tool to DAP

Kit Siang saw that Mahathir was very bitter and desperate and that the opposition could use him to whack Najib. Mahathir was Umno and he could draw in Malay support. DAP already had maximum Chinese support but that is not enough to march into Putrajaya. They needed Malay support as well and Mahathir could provide them that. Mahathir could become a very useful tool to the opposition pact

Mahathir, on the other hand, wanted to use the opposition pact like how Kuan Yew used the Communists to grab power in Singapore. And Kuan Yew wiped out the Communists who helped him get into power after they won the election. And while Kit Siang may be stupid, he is not dumb. He knows that Mahathir will turn on them once they win GE14, if they win, so they need to finish him off first.

The opposition pact will never forgive Mahathir for stealing RM100 billion of the rakyat’s money and once they win GE14, if they do win, Mahathir will be made to pay for this crime…and Mahathir knows it

What we have to wait for now is will Mahathir finish off Kit Siang and the rest of the leaders of the opposition pact or will they finish him off first? There cannot be two tigers on one mountain, as the Chinese say. But who is going to kill who first? Will they finish off Mahathir or will Mahathir do a Kuan Yew on them?

GE14 is as much a struggle for power within DAP, PKR and PPBM — and within the opposition pact between DAP, PKR and PPBM — as it is about defeating Umno and Barisan Nasional. The next 12 days are going to determine who lives and who dies. One thing for sure, though, Najib is not going to die. He is going to sweep GE14 win an impressive win and leave the opposition pact eating dirt. And then the opposition pact is going to turn on one another and rip one another to shreds like injured wolves turning on one another.

Don’t politicise 1MDB, says Arul Kanda

1MDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy says the company’s debts have gone down from RM50 billion to RM31 billion.

(FMT) – 1MDB president and CEO Arul Kanda Kandasamy has urged politicians not to politicise issues related to the company ahead of the May 9 election.

“At the Tun Razak Exchange, international companies like HSBC and Prudential have bought land to build their headquarters. So, we can see that the rationalisation plan is successful.

“When I joined the company, its debts were RM50 billion, and now there is only RM31 billion left. All the debts are long-term and in keeping with the long-term assets of the company,” he told reporters in Ampangan here yesterday.

Arul added that political parties should debate based on facts or policies and not dwell on personal attacks.

“For instance, when PAS has questions about 1MDB, they invite me to give an explanation.

“Do not be like DAP politicians who call me stupid, idiot and liar. I am sad with this kind of politicking.

“The problem with the pro-opposition media is that they only want answers that they want to hear,” he said, adding that his answers were based on facts, documents and the public view.
