PPBM candidates yet to declare assets, says Rafizi

(NST) – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) election candidates have yet to voluntarily declare their assets prior to running for polls.

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli, who is also the founder of party-linked non-governmental organisation movement Invoke, said PPBM leaders had yet to decide on the matter.

The declaration which was facilitated by Invoke to allow voters to check on the monies and assets owned by potential candidates was statutory, would see those involved become liable for legal action if they were suspected to have provided false information.

Rafizi said the service to facilitate the declaration was only made for Pakatan Harapan parties seeking Invoke’s help in contesting for marginal seats.

Rafizi also clarified that DAP did not want to use Invoke’s service because it would not be running for such seats.

When asked whether the statutory nature of the declaration had deterred PPBM leaders from disclosing their assets, Rafizi said the question should be posed to the party.

“You should ask them, not me… ask those who do not want to be on board,” Rafizi said when met after a ceremony to present the declaration of assets by 36 prospective candidates from opposition parties including Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) and PKR.

However, Rafizi said PPBM leaders had been briefed on the details of declaration and that it was not compulsory.
