Not right for beneficiaries to oppose benefactors – Devamany

(NST) – It is unbecoming for an individual or companies to turn against their benefactors.

Commenting on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s statement on wealth opportunities provided by the government, MIC deputy president Datuk Seri S. K. Devamany said it would not be right for policy beneficiaries to oppose their advocates.

“If there is a corporate group which had received government aid and contract, it is only right for them not to show their support to other parties. There is no need to do so.

“If you indeed have a stand, why did you receive government assistance, but later on render aid to the opposition? It would mean that you are ‘talam dua muka’ (two-faced). That is wrong,” Devamany said when contacted today.

Commenting on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s statement on wealth opportunities provided by the government, MIC deputy president Datuk Seri S. K. Devamany said it would not be right for policy beneficiaries to oppose their advocates.

Devamany said such was a culture which would not bode well for the people and should be discouraged.

“A major company’s reputation can be affected (if found out to be hypocritical). I agree with the prime minister. (Do not) use your right hand to welcome the funds, but your left hand to backstab (the provider). That is not a Malaysian culture.”

Yesterday, Najib said “Sugar King” Tan Sri Robert Kuok would not have made his fortune without various government policies that had become a key to his success.

Earlier political blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin had recently reported having claimed that Kuok harboured an agenda seeking to replace the current government with one led by DAP.

Devamany said while it was not wrong to have political differences, one should be a “gentleman” concerning his or her stand.

“If you do support the opposition, be a gentleman and open about it (your stand).

“If the struggle is based on principles, then come out to express yours openly, whether it is for Barisan Nasional or the opposition. “You cannot have both. (You) can’t receive government aid but support the opposition.”
