PPBM files originating summons against RoS over de-registration threat
(MMO) – Persatuan Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) has filed an originating summon against the Registry of Societies (RoS) at the Kuala Lumpur High Court, alleging the latter has behaved above the law including threatening to de-register the party.
The party’s lawyer, Haniff Khatri (pic) told a press conference that PPBM is seeking four court declaration and one stop order (perintah halangan) from RoS over the matter.
“We want a court declaration that RoS must exercise its powers responsibly according to the Societies Act 1966. Second, any complaints or investigation conducted against PPBM must be done according to procedures in the Societies Act.
“We also want the court to declare that the public statements made by the RoS were malafide and it’s against the Societies Act. Fourth. We also want any complaints from any parties against PPBM be investigated according to the Societies Act.
“ We also want to apply for an order to refrain parties to issue statements against against PPBM that are vague or confusing regarding PPBM’s status until this court has made its decision,” said Haniff.
The summon was filed by PPBM’s secretary-general Datuk Sharuddin Md Salleh who claimed that RoS failed to adhere with the procedures found in Societies Act regarding its duties as a registrar towards the party.
Haniff also claimed that since PPBM was founded on Sept 8, 2016, the RoS has issued multiple public statements threatening to de-register the party which he believes to be an illegal threat.
Furthermore, he added that RoS actions has caused undue stress and worry among PPBM’s leadership and members since PPBM has already been accepted as a legitimate political party.
