Selangor MB’s nephew among four remanded over illegal sand mining


(The Star) – A nephew of the Selangor Mentri Besar was among four men remanded for their alleged involvement in illegal sand mining in the state.

The men will be remanded for seven days until Dec 6 after the court granted the anti-graft prosecutors’ application to detain them for further investigation.

Magistrate Ainna Sherina Saipolamin approved the remand order on Thursday.

Those arrested are two company directors, a staff member of an advertising company and a site manager.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had also frozen the account of a company, said to contain RM4mil, and seized several lorries laden with the illegal commodity during the operation.

Initial investigation showed that the company had been carrying out illegal sand mining in Kajang since 2014.
