DAP issues 48-hour ultimatum to RoS

(The Star) -DAP has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to serve notice to the party to hold fresh election for its central executive committee (CEC).

DAP nation legal bureau chairman Gobind Singh Deo said the RoS had yet to serve any official letter to the party as of 1pm Wednesday since its director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah came out with a media statement on the matter last Friday.

“I give the RoS 48 hours. If it doesn’t, either by letter or otherwise, respond by the end of office hours this Friday, DAP will have no choice but to consider its options to deal with this position,” the Puchong MP said in a statement on Wednesday.

Gobind said the delay by RoS would affect and prejudice the party as “time was of the essence”.

“We cannot hold a fresh re-election without official communication from the RoS to that effect,” he said, adding that the RoS must clearly spell out the order with which DAP needs to comply.

In the statement last Friday, the RoS had said that it had no intention of deregistering DAP, but ordered the party to hold fresh elections for its CEC members.

Following complaints from DAP members, RoS had deemed that the re-election in 2013 was not carried out based on the list of delegates authorised to attend and vote in earlier polls held on Dec 15, 2012.

The decision was taken following a recent meeting Mohamad Razin had with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the Home Minister.
