DAP CEC re-election: ROS’ directive lawful, says Zahid

The first re-election, which was conducted in 2013, is invalid as several clauses under DAP’s constitution were not adhered to, says the DPM

(Berita Daily) – The Registrar of Societies’ (ROS) directive for DAP to hold a second re-election for its Central Executive Committee (CEC) is in accordance with the Societies Act 1966, said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the first re-election, which was conducted in 2013, was invalid as several clauses under DAP’s constitution were not adhered to, reported New Straits Times.

“The statement issued by ROS was to clarify (the issue that DAP would be de-registered). I met ROS director-general (Mohammad Razin Abdullah) and told him to act professionally and not emotionally.

“ROS will send a letter to DAP secretary-general (Lim Guan Eng) to instruct the re-election of party’s CEC, but no time frame was given,” he told reporters after officiating the Umno Bagan Datuk division meeting here.

It was reported that Razin had clarified that ROS had no intention of de-registering DAP but the party must hold fresh elections for its CEC.
