Azmin qualified to be PM, says PPBM Youth chief

INTERVIEW

(Berita Daily) –  Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali has got what it takes to lead the charge as Pakatan Harapan’s prime ministerial candidate, according to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) Armada chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Besides possessing the right quality to be a prime minister based on his track record in administrating the Selangor state government, Syed Saddiq pointed out that the PKR deputy president also have something that most leaders today don’t – youth.

“From PPBM, my prime ministerial candidate is either Tun (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) or Tan Sri (Muhyiddin Yassin).

“But if not from PPBM, from outside the party leadership, it would be PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.

“If you look at Azmin, he is not from a lineage of Malay aristocratic when compared to Prime Minister Najib Razak and most ministers today.

“He climbed up with his own effort, with no strong connections… what’s important is that he has a track record in Selangor and he is young,” he told Berita Daily in an exclusive interview recently.

Syed Saddiq said Azmin may also be the link between PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PKR’s defacto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Although he also named Mahathir and PPBM president Muhyiddin as suitable candidates from his own party, Syed Saddiq however stressed that Mahathir should only be the prime minister once again if it was absolutely necessary as the latter was already 91-years-old.

“If it is absolutely necessary, then yes. But there should be a defined guideline, like only for a year just to help reform the nation.

“I really pity him. People think that he is power hungry when he really doesn’t want to helm the post again. But the numbers and ground sentiments say otherwise. He is the most hard working among us all.

“Everyday, he comes in to the office no later than 8.30am and leaves no earlier than 5.30pm. Every night he attends either Pakatan Harapan meetings or talks, regardless if its DAP, PKR or Amanah events,” said the 25-year-old debater.

Mahathir deserves to be Pakatan chairman

Syed Saddiq also said that Pakatan Harapan should very well proceed with appointing Mahathir as the coalition’s chairman despite skepticism shown by some opposition leaders.

This objection included those from DAP leaders as well as from Anwar who had expressed concerns of PPBM leaders monopolising the Pakatan Harapan pact.

Syed Saddiq however stressed that such proposal never came from PPBM, adding that Muhyiddin had voluntarily declined the post to become the president of the opposition pact.

“It wasn’t our proposal to begin with. Plus we have already come to an agreement. Tan Sri (Muhyiddin) has withdrawn himself from the president post but Tun (Mahathir) should have a place in Pakatan Harapan supreme council,” Syed Saddiq said.
