No guarantee of safe passage for Clare Rewcastle-Brown, says IGP

If Sarawak Report editor wants to come, let her come and prove whatever allegations she has made, says IGP Khalid Abu Bakar.

(FMT) – The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) says he cannot guarantee Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown safe passage if she decides to come to Malaysia.

Accusing Rewcastle-Brown of having tarnished the reputation of the police force, IGP Khalid Abu Bakar said she should come to Malaysia, and prove all the allegations she has made through her whistleblower website.

“I will not guarantee her a safe passage. If she wants to come, let her come and prove whatever accusations she has made,” he said after launching the road safety operation for the current festive season, Ops Selamat 11, here today.

Khalid said most of the reports and allegations made in Sarawak Report were hearsay, adding Rewcastle-Brown had made baseless accusations against him and others in Malaysia.

“She has made all kinds of noise, allegations and accusations, all of which are baseless,” he said.

He added that Rewcastle-Brown, who is based in London, has a personal vendetta and “she wants to pour it out bit by bit while making all these accusations from overseas.”

Asked if police would investigate lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah over the allegation by Sarawak Report that RM9.5 million was transferred to his bank account from Prime Minister Najib Razak’s personal bank account, Khalid said he had previously “invited” Rewcastle-Brown to assist in their investigations.

Sarawak Report recently published an article over the transfer, alleging that the RM9.5 million was made out in two payments, on September 2013 and February 2014.

Rewcastle-Brown is reported to have said that Malaysian police are free to see her in the UK if they wish to speak to her.
