DAP: Stop-gap PM needed as Anwar disqualified

Yesterday, Kit Siang said Anwar could only be the eighth PM

(MMO) – Pakatan Harapan will install an interim prime minister if it wins power as the position cannot yet go to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP’s Lim Guan Eng asserted today.

Elaborating on his father, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang’s remarks yesterday, Guan Eng said this was because the jailed Anwar would not be immediately eligible for the post.

He added that the pact has decided this and will announce the candidate soon.

“It is not for me to announce (who will be the interim Prime Minister),” he said.

Yesterday, Kit Siang said Anwar could only be the eighth PM, but did not state who would be the seventh if the federal Opposition wins.

Wrangling over the issue began after placards endorsing Anwar as the “seventh PM” were handed to Pakatan Harapan leaders at PKR’s annual congress last month.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin refused to do so, and later said they did not support Anwar for the position.
