Muhyiddin stopped from holding event at mosque

Tahir said they were notified this morning through a letter from the Tangkak district qadi’s office, dated yesterday. It informed them that the Masjid An-Nur committee had refused to allow Muhyiddin to hold the event.

(FMT) – PPBM president and Pagoh MP Muhyiddin Yassin was today barred from holding a function to distribute rice and other contributions at a mosque in Tangkak, Johor.

Pagoh PPBM deputy chief Tahir Mohd Taat told news portal Malaysiakini that he was surprised and disappointed at the decision as the event was not meant to be a political one.

“It’s not a political ceramah. It was meant to provide contributions and was to be hosted in the mosque’s compound, not inside the mosque,” he was quoted as saying.

Tahir said they were notified this morning through a letter from the Tangkak district qadi’s office, dated yesterday. It informed them that the Masjid An-Nur committee had refused to allow Muhyiddin to hold the event.

The decision, which took into account the views of the district leadership as well as the mosque’s committee, was made “out of respect for the interests of all quarters”, the letter said, according to Malaysiakini.

Muhyiddin was formerly deputy prime minister and Umno deputy president. His party is one of the four parties in the opposition coalition of Pakatan Harapan, the others being PKR, DAP and Amanah.

He was sacked as deputy prime minister in a July 2015 cabinet reshuffle after he publicly called on Prime Minister Najib Razak to explain the 1MDB scandal.
