Sultan directs religious authorities to act against mosque who hosted Sivarasa

(Bernama) – Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has ordered the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) to investigate a mosque for allowing Subang MP R. Sivarasa to deliver a political speech.

According to the New Straits Times, Jais director Datuk Haris Kasim said he was notified of the Sultan’s decree by the latter’s private secretary.

“I was informed that the Sultan was displeased by the MP’s conduct,” he was quoted as saying.

The mosque committee has until this Friday to explain the incident, he added.

Haris also reiterated that the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) has stated that state mosques must not allow political speeches to be delivered inside their premises.

Sivarasa is said to have given a speech at the An Nur mosque in Kampung Melayu Subang last week.

Photographs of him at the mosque were also shared online.
