Mahathir refuses to endorse Anwar for Prime Minister

(The Sun Daily) – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said he wasn’t responsible for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s jailing after he signed a petition to free the PKR leader.

“It’s not me who put him in jail, that’s an old story. (Prime Minister Datuk Seri) Najib (Razak) is the one who put him (in jail),” The Malay Mail Online quoted Mahathir as saying.

Mahathir, who is the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman, and PPBM deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir signed the petition before exiting the PKR national congress here today.

Mahathir, however, refused to endorse Anwar as the Opposition’s choice as prime minister. “It’s up to anyone,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mukhriz said there was still a need for discussions among Pakatan Harapan members on the right candidate. “But I agree wholeheartedly that the candidate should be announced before the general election,” he said.
