(Bernama) – The Selangor state government will give its full cooperation in the investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on the alleged misappropriation of funds, involving RM200 million, from the state’s Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE).

Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said the state government always adhered to the principles of transparency and accountability and accepted all complaints.

“Everybody can see it is impossible for Selangor to be at this height now, with higher reserves and strong financial management, if there is corruption and power abuse.”

He was met by reporters after opening the Smart Trak programme on the campaign to reduce the use of plastic bags and polystyrene containers, organised by the Klanag Municipal Council (MPK) and KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd here today.

Azmin said this when asked for his response to a report over alleged abuse of public funds by the Selangor government. It was lodged with MACC by the chairman of the Malaysian Coalition of NGOs, Jamal Md Yunos, yesterday.

Jamal alleged that over RM200 million had been misappropriated from SMUE.

On today’s event, Azmin praised MPK for its effective solid waste management and the state government had allocated RM45 million this year to KDEB Waste Management for the purpose.
