(The Star) – Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik has hailed the meeting between Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, saying that the two politicians have demonstrated a “sacrificial spirit”.

The former MCA president said the meeting showed that the two veteran politicians – who were known to be sworn enemies – were capable of “swallowing their own pride for the larger good of the nation”.

“When two great leaders get together, good things normally follow.

“The example demonstrated by these two is within the reach of everybody and I hope we all could demonstrate the same sense of sacrifice and humility,” he said on Wednesday.

On Monday, Dr Mahathir turned up at the hearing of an application filed by Anwar to challenge the National Security Council (NSC) Act 2016, after 18 years of not meeting face-to-face.

Dr Mahathir was seen shaking hands with Anwar, his former deputy prime minister whom he sacked in 1998 and later accused of sodomy.

Dr Ling expressed his thanks to both leaders for having set aside their differences for the benefit of the people,

“I, on behalf of the people, would like to thank Anwar and Dr Mahathir,” he said.
