PAS not joining #TangkapMO1 rally

(MMO) – PAS will not participate in today’s #TangkapMO1 rally, its information chief Nasruddin Hassan confirmed.

The confirmation was reported by Malay daily Sinar Harian yesterday, send through a short text through messaging app WhatsApp.

“No,” Nasruddin replied, following Sinar’s question on the Islamist party’s participation.

The statement came just after PAS leaders on Friday said they were yet to reach a decision on whether or not the party would mobilise support for the protest.

Meanwhile PAS Ulama wing chief Datuk Mahfodz Mohamed told portal Free Malaysia Today yesterday that the leadership have not instructed party members to join the protest.

“We never got any instruction from the leadership. We have our own programme [today],” Mahfodz was quoted as saying.

The #TangkapMO1 rally is organised by a coalition of student groups and scheduled for today.

Protesters are to meet in the city centre at Sogo and Masjid Negara before marching to Dataran Merdeka. It is aimed at pressuring authorities to take action against the so-called “Malaysian Official 1”.

In the US Department of Justice’s civil lawsuit filed last month, “Malaysian Official 1” was identified as a high-ranking government official with authority in 1Malaysia Development Berhad, but the individual was not named.
