Former Perak MB wins defamation suit against TV3

Nizar

(The Star) – Former Perak mentri besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin (pix) won RM200,000 in damages over his defamation suit against Sistem Television (M) Bhd (TV3) on Thursday.

The suit relates to the WWW1 vehicle registration number plate issue.

High Court deputy registrar Hanie Dzatul Akhmar Zulkefli awarded the global sum to Mohammad Nizar for aggravated and exemplary damages.

In his RM50mil lawsuit, Mohammad Nizar said the television station had broadcast a defamatory statement on its Buletin Utama news programme on May 30, 2012 regarding his tweets on May 28, 2012.

He said the statement implied that he had alleged that the Ruler had misused the people’s funds to purchase the RM520,000 number plate.

On Feb 24, the Federal Court ruled there was no judicial bias in the Court of Appeal’s decision that Mohammad Nizar was defamed by TV3 over the matter.
