Muhyiddin, Mukhriz given time to make amends, says Tajuddin

(Bernama) – The Umno supreme council decision to sack Deputy President Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir from the party was not a hasty move, said supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

To the contrary, he said, both had been given space and opportunities to mend the situation but these were clearly futile.

“The Umno MT had discussed since several months ago on the action that has to be taken against them who were in cahoots with the opposition by running down the Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders and government, which could destroy Umno itself.

“This is surely against the party constitution and eventually we have taken the most apt decision by sacking them from the party,” he said.

He said this to reporters after handing over tithe contributions to 400 recipients from the Kampung Gajah state assembly constituency at the Hijriah Tanjung Sari Mosque, Kota Setia, yesterday.

Tajuddin was referring to the decision of the supreme council to sack Muhyiddin and Mukhriz as Umno members for flouting discipline and the suspension of vice-president Mohd Shafie Apdal’s membership.

“Umno does not want to take action as it pleases because it was a difficult decision to take. But the decision had to be made because otherwise, it will bring more woe to the party and the BN government,” he added.
