Umno Supreme Council Member Nazri Aziz says it will be “stupid” to continue providing funds to Mahathir who wants to depose the Prime Minister.

(FMT) – After losing his positions in Proton and Petronas, former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad may lose his provisions for the Perdana Leadership Foundation (YPM), which he has led since its formation.

This was according to Umno Supreme Council Member Nazri Abdul Aziz, who said the matter will be discussed at the Umno Supreme Council meeting tomorrow.

“The funds are government funds. So we have to decide if we want to continue providing funds to someone who wants to bring down the PM. I think we would be stupid to do so.”

Earlier today, Umno Deputy Youth Chief Khairul Azman Harun urged the government to cease all funding for YPM, including assets and payments to staff.

He had accused Mahathir of using the funds to oust PM Najib Razak.

“That’s a good proposal, I support it,” Nazri said in response.

YPM was established in January 2003 as a non-profit organisation that aims to study and promote the ideas and legacies of Malaysian prime ministers.

It was officially launched on May 10, 2005 by then Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi.
