DAP’s racial billboards shows party ‘bankrupt of ideas’, BN man says

Budiman Mohd Zohdi

(MMO) – Budiman Mohd Zohdi roasted his political foes in the DAP today for resorting to using provocative materials to attack Barisan Nasional (BN) in its campaign for Sungai Besar.

The BN candidate claimed the smear campaign was what the DAP was best at, adding that he had not wanted to blame any party for the incident but since the opposition has owned up, he would offer his views.

“They are bankrupt of ideas that they are willing to incite hatred to woo support,” he told a news conference here, referring to the DAP.

Budiman was dismissive of Khalid Samad from Parti Amanah Negara who saw no need to apologise for the provocative posters, saying it was a common tactic by the opposition.

But he urged Pakatan Harapan to stop inciting hatred while campaigning.

“I think this is going to go on, but I really hope it doesn’t.

“Focus should be on development and uniting the community,” he said.

Budiman said he would seek legal advice if the matter persists.

Posters featuring Malay words “Panggil Cina babi tidak salah” (Not wrong to call Chinese pigs) and attributed to Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Jamal Yunos as well as “BN PAS sehati sejiwa, rasis rasuah sama sekali” (BN and PAS are of one soul, together in racism and corruption) had been erected in Sekinchan. In it, voters were asked to choose Amanah in the June 18 Sungai Besar by-election.

The controversial posters were removed by Election Commission officers at 5pm yesterday.

The Sungai Besar by-election is a three-way fight involving BN’s Budiman, PAS’s Dr Abdul Rani Osman and Amanah’s Azhar Shukur.
