Bukit Katil PKR MP Shamsul Iskandar Mat Akin says they met at the request of the former PM and discussed current issues.

(FMT) – PKR MP Shamsul Iskandar Mat Akin confirmed his presence at a meeting with former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad here today, saying that he was representing other PKR MPs.

He had attended the meeting even though jailed de facto Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim had written a letter recently, warning of the perils of working with Mahathir on the Citizens’ Declaration.

“Today’s meeting was after Tun Mahathir’s request to meet with Opposition MPs. Obviously, my presence was to represent fellow PKR MPs as those from PAS, DAP and Amanah were also present.

“I feel there is no need to speculate on the matter. The flames of reforms for me started with the 1998 Reformasi movement,” he said at a press conference with Mahathir at the Yayasan Kepimpinan Perdana, when met by Sinar Harian reporters today.

Shamsul, who is Bukit Katil MP, said they discussed current political issues like the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the price of oil and the economic burden.

“So, I think these things do not run away from the basic PKR struggle,” he said.

He believed Anwar’s warning letter was a reminder not to forget about reforms and change.

At the one-hour meeting, some DAP leaders were also seen. PKR, Amanah and PAS were only represented by one MP each.

Others present included Pokok Sena PAS MP Mahfuz Omar and Parit Buntar Amanah MP Mujahid Yusoff Rawa.
