Only stupid people would vote Umno-Barisan Nasional
If stupidity is measured in terms of how you vote or based on your religious belief then stupidity must certainly be relative. I mean, you may say you are clever and not stupid for supporting, say DAP. But then I can still say you are stupid for praying to statues and idols or for believing in the Trinity nonsense and for believing that Jesus is the Son of God and that he died and came back to life three days later.
NO HOLDS BARRED
Raja Petra Kamarudin
The Ant Daily published the comments by its mainly Chinese readers regarding how stupid the Sarawak people are for voting for Barisan Nasional (READ BELOW). It looks like the Chinese from West Malaysia are still tak habis geram because DAP got whacked good and proper in Sarawak. In fact, so many opposition candidates lost their deposit that it was downright embarrassing.
The point is, as far as these people are concerned, only stupid people would vote Umno-Barisan Nasional. You cannot not be stupid if you support or vote for Umno-Barisan Nasional. That is the simple conclusion and the long and short of the whole thing.
What these people, especially those commenting below, do not understand is that stupidity is not static. It is dynamic. It moves and changes over time. It moves and changes over territories. And it moves and changes over cultures. Hence, in short, whether you are regarded as stupid or not depends on when and where you live — which society you live in and what period in history you happen to be living in.
For example, 500 years ago, those living in England who believed in the Roman Catholic religion or were Papists were considered stupid. In fact, they were considered so stupid they were put to death. And pagans such as Chinese, Indians, etc., who worshipped idols and statues were regarded as even more stupid than Catholics. And Muslims were beyond stupid — they were devil-worshippers or followers of Satan.
Also, a couple of hundred years ago, those who thought that the earth revolved around the sun (and not the other way around) and those who thought that the earth was round (and not flat) were considered stupid. Also considered stupid were those who believed that the universe had existed for billions of years when the church had already ‘proven’ that the universe was created just 6,000 years ago.
So how could the Indians claim that their 10,000-year old civilisation is older than the 5,000-year old Chinese civilisation when the world existed for just 6,000 years? Are the Indians and Chinese not stupid? The world did not come into being until the time of Adam and Eve and that was just 6,000 years ago.
Then we had to wait for the Great Flood of Noah’s time, which means there cannot be a 10,000-year old Indian civilisation or a 5,000-year old Chinese civilisation. The world was reborn only after Noah’s Ark reached Iraq, and that was when and where civilisation began– in Iraq and not in India or China.
Of course, today you would say that those who believed this nonsense 200 or 300 years ago were stupid. However, 200 or 300 years ago, the whites would say that you yellow, brown and black people were stupid instead. So, as I said, stupidity changes over time and place. In different places and different times different people would be regarded as the stupid ones. Hence stupidity is relative and not static.
During the era of Merdeka around the 1950s, those who supported the government were considered stupid, especially those non-Malays. So, many, especially the Chinese, supported the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM). We must remember that China, where the Malaysian Chinese came from, was Communist while the CPM was the backbone of the MPAJA (Malayan Peoples’ Anti-Japanese Army).
So only stupid Chinese would support the government. Clever Chinese opposed the government and supported the CPM and gave them financial aid and food/medicine supplies. And that was why the British built ‘new villages’ all over Malaysia and locked up the Chinese in these ‘new villages’. It is because the Chinese were very clever and supported the CPM and not stupid like the Malays who supported the government.
Then the whole thing reversed. The Chinese then started supporting the government while the Malays supported the opposition like PAS. And that was why PAS took over Kelantan soon after Merdeka and that was also why Onn Jaafar won the Kuala Terengganu seat that he contested as an opposition candidate even though he was from Johor.
So, if we want to argue whether you or me are stupid and who is the cleverer of the two, then let us broaden the parameters and not confine this to just the ballot box. I could say you are stupid for calling me a racist when I married someone of another race while you married someone of your own race. I could say you are stupid for following, say, Hinduism, just because your parents happen to follow that same religion.
Can you see how the discussion on who is more stupid expands once we broaden the parameters regarding what makes someone stupid? Maybe we need to adopt a scoring system.
You get one point if you vote for Umno-Barisan Nasional, one point if you marry someone of your own race, one point if you believe in God, one point if you follow your parents’ religion, one point if you believe that ‘holy books’ came from God or were ‘inspired’ by God, one point if you oppose the NEP but benefited from a government student loan/scholarship, one point if you think Muslims must not leave Islam, one point if you oppose gay marriages, one point if you think ganja should be outlawed, one point if you oppose smoking but not oppose drinking, one point if you oppose prostitution but not adultery, and so on.
Then the person with the highest number of points can be considered more stupid than the person with the lowest number of points.

billyes: Rural folks, they are funny people. They are apparently more concerned with basic amenities. We can understand that. But how long has this concern been existing?
If they asked for clean water, electricity, roads and schools in 1963….they are still asking the same in 2016? And will still vote for the same party.
I must conclude that although lacking in amenities, they are still happy enough to vote for the same people. They must have the view that if they continue to vote BN, they will get a trickle of such things but if they vote for the opposition they get nothing.
So my belief is that until the opposition can show that they can win enough seats to form the state government, rural folk will not give them their votes.
But without these rural seats, the opposition will not win and form the government. It’s a catch 22 situation.
Mikey: Excellent analogy billyes. You are very cultured and diplomatic to call rural folk ‘funny people’. You and most of us get it but the rural folk don’t see the way we see it.
I guess that is why they are called rural or kampong folk. Looks like the rural folk are happily voting for a sack of rice, sugar, flour and RM100.
BN has done a marvellous job in brain washing these funny people and we in Malaya will have to pay the price for their follies.
Soo Hock Ooi: And they deserve everything thrown at them! They supported a corrupt regime and was not ashamed to take the money offered for their votes !
Stanley Koh: The article is not convincing. Full of contradictions and apologetic to the truth.
What autonomy? If Adenan has it why talk about bargaining with Najib? No bribery? Why can’t all those projects be done all these donkey years? Why only promise this and that during the election campaign?
Even an honest fool agrees it is glaringly a scratch my back I scratch yours agenda.
And about politics of hate? What hate? Can you say all these fiascos and financial scandals are lies to promote hatred.
With more than eight foreign countries acknowledging the scandal, is trying to change the nation towards a better future an act of hatred?
A spade is a spade. Stupid is stupid. A simple truth. The truth is never uncouth.
Rony Lim: Why curse them? They voted based on their wisdom. If things go wrong they themselves are to be blamed!
Wang Michelle: What about those nasty comments against the Malayans?? How come you quiet about it?
Ng Hong Chai: If the majority is happy so be it!
