Hadi: PAS won’t work with Pakatan Harapan for two by-elections

(MMO) – PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has said they will contest on their own in the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections as any cooperation with Pakatan Harapan will fail.

He said PAS will do everything to fight for the two seats with or without the opposition pact’s help, local news portal The Star Online reported.

“PAS expects nothing from Pakatan Harapan. We will battle it out on our own for the two parliamentary seats,” Hadi reportedly said.

We have contested those seats since Merdeka and we have the absolute right to fight for both seats. Any party from the Opposition must gauge its own strengths,” the Marang MP added.

Hadi added that cooperation will never work with Pakatan Harapan as they have shown their failure to work together in the previous Sarawak state election.

PKR and DAP locked horns in the May 7 Sarawak election that cost them six seats due to overlaps.

PAS, which is excluded from the Pakatan Harapan federal opposition pact, has declared its intent to contest in both Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar, claiming ownership by custom.

But its splinter party Amanah has its eye on the Perak seat while PKR is gunning for the Selangor seat. DAP has expressed no interest to contest in the two seats.

The by-elections were called after both Sungai Besar MP Datuk Noriah Kasnon and Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Wan Muhammad Khairil Anuar Wan Muhammad died in a helicopter crash during the Sarawak state elections on May 5.

Both were from Umno, and both of them won their seats after defeating candidates from PAS in the last elections.
