(MMO) – The police have opened four investigation papers against former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for several alleged offences, including for seeking the intervention of foreign media in the internal affairs of the country.

Inspector-General Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said investigations into some of these cases have been concluded, but did not elaborate.

“Some investigation are on sedition and the rests are other things,” he said when asked what offences Dr Mahathir was being investigated over.

Dr Mahathir in a previous interview with The Weekend Australian newspaper said that chances of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak relinquishing his post were slim if there was no external pressure.

Following this, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the move by Dr Mahathir could result in the people losing respect for the latter.

He had also said that Dr Mahathir, during the latter’s tenure as the prime minister, had constantly reminded Umno members to respect good leaders but was now going against this principle.

Dr Mahathir is leading the Save Malaysia movement calling for Najib to step down as the prime minister.

The former prime minister has been questioned previously over his allegations against Umno leaders, and has suggested that he may soon be arrested for his continued attacks against Putrajaya.
