(Today Online) – Former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has resigned as chairman of Proton Holdings, along with several other government-linked posts, according to a media release on his blog.

A letter of resignation was sent to Group Managing Director of DRB-HICOM Berhad, Mr Syed Faisal Albar on Wednesday (March 30), said the release.

Dr Mahathir has also relinquished his post as the Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Petronas, also effective Wednesday.

Apart from that, Dr Mahathir has also resigned as the advisors to the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) and the Tioman Island Development Authority (TIDA). The Chief Secretary to the government has been informed of these resignations.

Dr Mahathir was sacked as adviser to national oil firm Petronas on March 11 by the Malaysian Cabinet, a week after the statesman formed a bipartisan movement to oust Prime Minister Najib Razak. Dr Mahathir had been adviser to Petronas since he retired as prime minister in 2003 after 22 years of governing Malaysia.
