AG has final say not to charge PM, Umno minister tells Dr M

Abdul Rahman Dahlan

(MMO) – Umno minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said today that it is the Attorney-General’s constitutional right to decide whether or not to charge Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

As such, Abdul Rahman questioned Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s request for closure in the matter, saying the AG’s decision not to pursue the SRC International and RM2.6 billion cases should suffice as closure for the government and for Umno.

“There must be closure. I don’t know what closure that Tun Mahathir wants,” he told reporters after launching the National Solid Waste Management Open Day here.

“For me, as far as the government is concerned, as far as the party is concerned, when there was an investigation done, the Attorney-General has made a recommendation, that’s the closure that we need.”

On the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) being instructed to continue investigations into the matter, he said the agency was free to have a differing opinion on the matter.

“The MACC can make its own evaluation, and the AG Chambers can have its own evaluation. But the Constitution gives power to the AG to be the final authority,” he said.
