Political donations not taxable, says Inland Revenue chief

(The Star) – Recipients of political donations are not required to pay taxes on the money they received, said Inland Revenue Board chief Tan Sri Mohd Shukor Mahfar (pic).

“To me, if the income is not subjected to tax, then it cannot be taxed. Political donations are not subjected to tax,” Mohd Shukor told reporters at the IRB-Malaysian Employers Federation seminar here.

Mohd Shukor was asked if political donations were subjected to taxes.

This was in reference to a blog posting by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who had queried if Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had disclosed to the IRB the receipt of the huge sum of donations channelled into his private bank accounts.
