Ahmad Bashah: I don’t know about talk of new MB tomorrow

(The Star) – To Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, whether he would be appointed mentri besar “is not an issue.”

The Kedah Umno deputy chairman said it was the prerogative of party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on who he wants to appoint to replace Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir but “I will support who ever the candidate is.”

“Give him some time to make a decision. Whatever decision he will make is his prerogative.

“Whether I  will be appointed the new Mentri Besar is not an issue. I will support who ever the candidate is,” Ahmad Bashah told reporters after arriving here on Saturday.

On Friday, Ahmad Bashah and the 14 Kedah Umno chiefs who called for Mukhriz’s ouster met Najib to discuss the matter.

Ahmad Bashah said he was not aware of  talk that an announcement would be made tomorrow on the mentri besar’s position.

“In the meeting, we did not mention who the new Mentri Besar will be.

“Those who attended the meeting comprised 14 of the 15 division heads who voiced out their opinion.

“We think it is time now to make a change to the present state Umno leadership,”  he added.
