PAS can work with any party for the sake Islam, Hadi says

(Bernama) – PAS will not cease working with anyone or political parties towards upholding Islam and the interests of Muslims in the country.

Its president, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said it was also the right of the party to work with Umno as long as both parties were willing to accept each other’s views for the development of Islam, and not for political interests.

He referred to the time when he represented Muslims in the country to become the middleman in efforts to resolve the conflict in Yemen.

“At that time, the Malaysian government through Wisma Putra had instructed our embassy there (Yemen) to assist me to be a mediator in the conflict.

“Through diplomatic affairs, I met with the leaders of the warring factions and eventually managed to find a solution for peace.

“This shows that, at that time, PAS had cooperated with the government, particularly Umno,” he added.

He said this in his keynote address at the ‘Nadwah Ulama 2016’ programme, with the title ‘Current Politics & PAS’ Direction’ at the Tarbiyah At-Taqwa complex in Batu Enam here today.

Present were Terengganu PAS commissioner Satiful Bahri Mamat; state PAS Dewan Ulama chief Datuk Hussin Awang and state PAS information chief Mohd Nor Hamzah.

At a dialogue session later, Abdul Hadi said he had also shared his views on international issues relating to Islam  with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“I had given my views and advice to Datuk Seri Najib to ask the Bangladeshi government to release its Islamic leaders from detention. I had also met with Tun Dr Mahathir and we discussed the same thing.

“We are now discussions with leaders in the country on how to empower the Syariah courts. These are the kind of cooperation that we can forge,” he added.
