(Berita Daily) – Prime Minister Najib Razak has instructed his lawyers to demand for an apology from former MCA president Dr Ling Liong Sik for allegedly calling for his removal as prime minister.

The alleged call by Ling was published in an English news portal two days ago.

A letter to the effect was served by hand to Ling today by the law firm of Messrs Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak on behalf of Najib in his personal capacity and among others, it demanded that Ling apologise within seven days.

A failure to do so would result in legal action being taken against the former transport minister.

Lawyer Hafarizam Harun, who represented the firm, said in the letter to Ling that the remarks made by him were defamatory and had damaged the reputation of the prime minister, besides being inclined to bring down Najib’s image in the eyes of the people.

Hafarizam had also demanded that Ling retract the alleged remarks, issue an unequivocal apology and pay a reasonable compensation as restitution.

Ling, who served as transport minister for 17 years before retiring, on Saturday, called for Najib to be removed as prime minister.

He was reported saying that he agreed with his former boss Dr Mahathir Mohamad given that Najib had “taken people’s money and put it in his own personal accounts”.

“I agree with (Dr) Mahathir. Because he (Najib) has taken people’s money and put it in his own personal accounts,” Ling was quoted as saying at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.
