(Bernama) – The Bajau-based party United Sabah Bajau Organisation has amended its constitution to open the doors to all bumiputera communities to strengthen and broaden the scope and functions of the association.

USBO president Salleh Said Keruak said the amendment was approved by the Registrar of Societies on May 27.

The association has been renamed as United Sabah Bumis Organisation, but would retain its abbreviation. The word Bumis by definition refers to the Bajau, Ubian, Malay, Iranun and Suluk communities, he said.

“This amendment is made to adjust the scope and functions of the association as well as championing the interests of these communities under the auspices of Bumis,” he said in a statement today.

USBO would maintain its original struggle with its activities focused on education, the economy and culture.

Salleh, who is also Sabah Umno deputy chairman, said USBO was committed to supporting Najib Razak at the federal level and Musa Aman at the state level.

USBO is an affiliate of the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition.
