Hizbut Tahrir: Umno has failed because it rejected Islam
Group says Mahathir, Najib and Umno members are more interested in self-gratification rather than honouring the doctrines of Islam.
(Free Malaysia Today) – Umno’s destruction is not solely due to the misappropriation of funds, occurrence of scandals and gross mismanagement but mainly because the party has repeatedly failed to apply Islamic law in its administration, said Hizbut Tahrir Malaysia (HTM) on its website.
HTM, whose vision is to set-up an Islamic state in Malaysia and a worldwide caliphate as part of its global network, also said Umno members were not even schooled in the basics of Islam but placed self-gratification above all else when they joined the party.
“Everyone ‘enters’ Umno for personal benefit. The bigger the post in the party, the more benefits they reap. This has been Umno’s ‘education’ in the past, present and future.”
It quoted Mahathir Mohamad’s recent attacks on Prime Minister Najib Razak and said the former premier was no better because his administration was also plagued by scandals of every kind, all of which went against the teachings of Islam.
“All of Najib’s or Mahathir’s actions as well as that of all the leaders and members of Umno, will be declared destructive when judged against Islamic Law,” it said, adding that Muslims were disappointed with both leaders for not applying Islamic doctrine to their respective administrations.
“If the people are suffering in Malaysia, it is because Umno is not applying the doctrines of Islam.
“If Umno leaders are rich while the people are poverty-stricken, it is because Umno is not applying the Islamic doctrine.
