Anti-Hadi rebellion fizzling out?

Now challenger Husam says he’s ‘undecided’ about taking on party president

(Free Malaysia Today0 – Is the progressive faction of PAS losing heart about toppling ulama-backed Abdul Hadi Awang as party president? This seemed to be a possibility today with challenger Husam Musa reportedly now undecided about contesting the post.

Husam was nominated by the Segamat division last month in the midst of controversy about Hadi’s plans to carry out hudud criminal penalties in Kelantan, which has caused a rift with the party’s partners in Pakatan Rakyat.

The progressive faction in PAS seeks closer relationships with Pakatan partners DAP and PKR, while the ulama-led faction has pushed for implementation of Islamic law and seeks close cooperation with Umno.

Speaking after opening the Segamat PAS annual meeting today, Husam told reporters he was undecided whether to accept the nomination and contest for the presidency at the party’s elections in June.
