DBKL won’t close roads to Dataran Merdeka

(The Star) – None of the roads leading to Dataran Merdeka have been closed, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Mayor Tan Sri Ahmad Fuad Ismail said Friday.

“While we advise the public not to gather at Dataran Merdeka, as it is closed, those planning to take part (in the rally) should abide by the rules,” he said, adding that DBKL maintained its decision not to allow Saturday’s proposed Bersih 3.0 rally there.

DBKL would also try its best not to close any road leading to Dataran Merdeka on Saturday, he told a press conference here.

“We will inform road users if any roads are closed, and will do our best to ensure the safety of the public,” he added.

“Our advice is not to march on the main roads but use the sidewalks.”

It was earlier reported that DBKL would be closing Dataran Merdeka and roads leading to it from 6am Friday to 6am Sunday.
