Sng’s ‘reputation’ thwarting SWP polls attempt

Sarawak Workers Party seems to have come up of against a wall in its selection of candidates for the coming general election.

(Free Malaysia Today) – KUCHING: The newly registered Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) which wants to contest in six Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS)-allocated seats may be faced with the difficulty of finding credible Dayak candidates to contest.

It is common knowledge here that SWP’s prime mover, businessman Sng Chee Hua is bent on avenging the humiliation that he and his son former Pelagus assemblyman Larry Sng have suffered in the hands of PRS president James Masing.

Moreover, they know that Sng is a gambler and a cock-fighter, and ‘quality’ candidates won’t want to gamble their future with him.

“We don’t want to gamble our future in the hands of SWP. We know that Sng is not serious,” said a lecturer who was contacted by Sng to contest in Lubok Antu.

“Its (SWP) motive to contest is purely vengeance against PRS, Sng’s former party,” added the lecturer.

This weekend SWP leaders will meet at Rumah Budol, Ng Entabai in the Meluan constituency whose incumbent is Wong Judat. Judat is the vice-president of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP).

The meeting is to seek the views of the people regarding the candidate for the Julau constituency.

SWP has identified three candidates to contest against PRS vice-president and Deputy Minister of Information, Communications and Heritage Joseph Salang.

Included in the list are Josephine Mawat, her son Collin Bala and Sng himself.

‘Sng is desperate’

Sng was the former MP for Julau between 1995 and 1999 during the days of Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak, while Mawat was the defeated candidate in 2004.

It is not known yet whether Judat will attend the function, but word has spread urging people to attend the function.

In Selangau, where the incumbent is Joseph Entulu, Sng has allegedly contacted a former Resident of Kapit division Hilary Mukit. It is understood that Mukit has turned down the offer.

A source said that in the event that Sng will not contest in Julau, he may offer himself to contest against Entulu in Selangau.

Lately he has been seen actively meeting in Selangau.
