Call for Najib and Anwar to issue joint statement condemning political violence

(Malaysian Digest) – Datuk S Ambiga today urged opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and issue a joint statement condemning any action of political violence.

Commenting on the recent cases of violence involving partisan politics, the Bersih co-chairperson said both leaders from the government and opposition must meet up to condemn such acts.

“I hope they can find time to sit down negotiate… come out with a statement condemning the crimes that have been occurring based on partisan politics sentiments,” said Ambiga.

Ambiga was met during the Bersih 3.0 press conference in Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.

Commenting on the rally themed “Duduk Bantah” (Sit Resist), she said the rally acknowledges the high possibility of political violence to occur though she insists that the organizer will take the security aspect as top priority.

“Our top priority is ensuring public safety.

“And we hope the authorities will help us, because on (April) 28th there are no partisan participants.

“We are all Malaysians demanding for clean electoral process.

“And it is hard to intimidate if we are in a large numbers, so I urge all Malaysians to join us in this peaceful sit -in,” she added.
