Now, the way forward, please

My aspiration is to get rich. My objective is to get rich. My strategy is to get rich. And I just scream that I want to get rich. Will just screaming that I want to get rich ensure that I will get rich?

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

If I were asked to analyse, rationalise and summarise the discussions and debates over the last few days, then I would probably do so as follows.

For most of you:

Your aspiration is ABU, meaning ‘anything but Umno’. (Definition of aspiration — to long for; to aim for; to seek ambitiously; to be desirous of.)

Your objective is ABU. (Definition of objective — something that one’s efforts or actions are intended to attain or accomplish; purpose; goal; aim; target.)

Your strategy is ABU, (Definition of strategy — the science or art of combining and employing the means of war in planning and directing large movements and operations; a plan, method, or series of manoeuvres for obtaining a specific goal or result: the manner in getting ahead in the world.)

And, as for me:

My aspiration is to see a very strong two-party system in Malaysia so that the voters have a choice and are able to pit one party against another to force them to compete for our votes and make them go all out to impress us that they can be the better government.

My objective is to see good governance, more transparency and accountability, the end of corruption, the end of abuse of power, the end of transgressions, the end of injustice, the end of the manipulation of the judiciary, the end of racism, the end of religious intolerance and extremism, the end of the violation of the Federal Constitution of Malaysia, more freedom of expression, more freedom of the media, a better education system, better quality and free health care, etc.

My strategy is to try to convince the middle ground and the Malay heartland to share my aspiration and objective and convince them to reject all politicians and political parties that do not also uphold the same standards and values that we aspire for and that do not share our same objective.

Now can you see why it is impossible for us to debate? You only have an aspiration — to see Umno and its cohorts in Barisan Nasional kicked out of office. You have no real objective other than just to see a change of government. And you clearly have no strategy, other than just to aspire to see a change of government.

Honestly, do you think just by screaming ABU that is already a winning strategy? Your aspiration is ABU. Your objetive is ABU. Your strategy is ABU. You are of the opinion that screaming ABU is a cure-all formula.  Is it?

Let me use this analogy.

My aspiration is to get rich. My objective is to get rich. My strategy is to get rich. And I just scream that I want to get rich. Will just screaming that I want to get rich ensure that I will get rich?

Now, tell me, how are you going to see what you aspire happen? This is what separates the men from the boys.

Do not get me wrong. I am not against ABU. Hell, I have been screaming ABU myself for many years. My question to you is: do you have an objective and strategy other than just an aspiration?
