DAP assemblyman lodges report against MIC

By Hemananthani Sivanandam, The Sun

A DAP assemblyman today lodged a police report against MIC and its youth wing for allegedly “condoning criminal acts” including criminal intimidation and blackmail.
Sungkai assemblyman A. Sivanesan said the report was based on recent published reports that syndicates were allegedly luring young Indian girls into posing naked for pictures or videos, and blackmailing the girls into having sex with them.

MIC Youth secretary C. Sivarajah had reportedly said the youth wing had tried to help the victims by negotiating with the men who took the pictures.

Sivanesan today said MIC should have referred the matter to the police instead of raising the matter in the media or negotiating with the syndicates. He said he had contacted MIC Youth chief T. Mohan on Dec 22 on the matter, but has not received any response.

He said he had also urged MIC president Datuk G. Palanivel to hand over all evidence collected by MIC.

When contacted, Sivarajah told theSun it was not up to him to lodge a police report on the matter. “I can only advise the family of the victims to lodge a report and it’s up to them,” he said.

He said the article was meant to create awareness among young people not to be involved or get cheated by such syndicates.

“I have received numerous complaints on this issue. I see this as a social responsibility to help them.

“It’s not right for me to lodge a police report on behalf of the victims to gain political mileage. That is why I didn’t lodge a police report as I didn’t want it publicised in the media,” he said.

Sivarajah also said he had tried  to reach Sivanesan to clarify the matter but has to receive any response
