We’ll give our all to defend Putrajaya, says Youth

(The Star) – UMNO Youth has pledged to fight all the way to defend Putrajaya from the clutches of the Opposition, said its chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

The fiery leader, who likened the Opposition to a three-headed Roman monster Cerberus but with different ideals and goals, said that all of his members would work hard to prevent the Opposition from disrupting the nation’s peace and harmony.

Berpantang maut sebelum ajal, hingga ke titisan darah yang terakhir (before we die, before the last drop of blood), the warriors of the movement will never surrender.

“The Opposition represents three Malaysia, if we go to Kelantan it’s a Muslim state, go to Penang, there’s no New Economic Policy (NEP) and go to Selangor, it’s anything goes,” he said in his winding-up speech during the Umno general assembly yesterday.

Khairy said that the nation’s youth had begun to see through the lies of the Opposition given the recent wins for Barisan Nasional in Manek Urai, Hulu Selangor and Bagan Pinang by-elections.

He said that it would be meaningless should the country become a high-income nation by 2020 but the Malays were still left behind.

Khairy added that the wing would work hard to help Umno and Barisan Nasional win the upcoming Galas and Batu Sapi by-elections.

He also proposed that the party set up a think-tank to gather ideas from “young minds,” professors and other segments of the rakyat in order to ensure that the party reaped political dividends.

Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil urged the president, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, to increase women’s participation in critical sectors of society.

“Women make up 50.31% or 5.7 million voters throughout the country with the movement having some 1.3 million members,” she said.

On issues concerning the Federal Constitution, Shahrizat said the party would not compromise on the demands of certain quarters who abuse the provisions that have been enshrined in the Constitution.

Puteri Umno chief Datuk Rosnah Rashid Shirlin said the wing would launch an all-out attack against the Opposition to win the hearts of the people.

She said the movement’s 347,000 members would increase their activities to serve the people.
