Online media reporters asked to leave Umno General Assembly

KUALA LUMPUR –  Eight Malaysiakini reporters were reportedly asked to leave Umno 61st General Assembly on Wednesday because the online-based news portal did not have the official media coverage pass, Merdeka Review reported.

According to the website, the Chinese-editor of Malaysiakini Kuek Ser Kuang Keng said they were informed that the reporters are not allowed to use the newsroom as they were not issued an official media pass by Umno.

It was learnt that the order came from the party’s secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Kuek claimed that Tengku Adnan has promised to grant the news website an official media pass previously but told Wednesday at the PWTC that the application has been rejected.

Similarly, Merdeka Review and The Malaysian Insider were not issued the official media pass.
