Cops: We acted fairly in Perak assembly incident

(The Star) IPOH: Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar has defended the Perak police over Wednesday’s arrests of several Pakatan Rakyat state assemblymen and supporters outside the State Secretariat building.

The arrests were made in accordance with the law and was justified, he said, adding that the police were not biased when performing their duties and would arrest anyone, regardless of race, for disobeying the law.

“In whatever situation, the police will ensure that the law is followed,” he told a press conference during buka puasa at the Perak police contingent headquarters here on Thursday.

He said that those involved in the Sept 2 attempt by Pakatan to convene a state assembly sitting should appreciate the country’s peace and harmony.
