Teoh had faith in life, say friends

(The Star) – Friends and former colleagues of Teoh Beng Hock could not believe that he would end his life in such a tragic way. To them, the former Sin Chew Daily reporter was soft-spoken, sincere, dedicated to his work and someone who had “faith in life”.

“He would not take his own life just like that,’’ said Tan Yu Chyan, also a former journalist with the Chinese daily.

Tan, who was based in the newspaper’s Putrajaya bureau, said Teoh, who worked in the Kajang office, had resigned to become Selangor exco member Ean Yong Hian Wah’s political secretary in April last year.

He said they maintained constant contact despite parting ways.

“We were supposed to meet for dinner last week but he could not make it at the last minute due to work commitments. He telephoned me yesterday (Wednesday) morning but I was busy and could not talk to him.’’

Tan said Teoh’s girlfriend was a schoolteacher.
