It’s now known as Selangor State Assembly


(Bernama) – Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim announced that as of Wednesday, the state assembly will be officially known as Selangor State Assembly and not the Selangor State Legislative Assembly.

The announcement was made by the menteri besar in his special message in conjunction with the state assembly's 50th anniversary celebration at the beginning of the state assembly session, here Wednesday.

He said according to the Selangor State Constitution 1959 and the assembly's regulations, the legislative branch of the state was called Selangor State Assembly and not the Selangor State Legislative Assembly.

"It's a common error. So, we will correct what is wrong and use the original term, that is the Selangor State Assembly in all official transactions," he said.

Meanwhile, the menteri besar said a series of various programmes had been lined up throughout the year for the state assembly's golden jubilee celebration including a Royal Dinner scheduled for Wednesday night, Democracy and Legislative Convention, debates and an exhibition of the state legislative body.

Also planned were the publication of the state assembly's historical book and video and the upgrading of the state assembly's website.

Abdul Khalid said a time capsule to commemorate the celebration would also be buried in the state assembly compound which would only be dug and opened 50 years later.

Abdul Khalid also reiterated that the state assembly's question time for this session had been extended to 90 minutes from the previous 60 minutes, to encourage more participation from the state assemblymen.
