Special rights panel summons state secretary

(The Star) IPOH: The Perak state secretary has been summoned by the Rights and Special Privileges Committee to explain why the gate to the State Secretariat building was closed on March 3, leading to the “under the tree sitting”.

A state official said State Secretary Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Hashim received a letter yesterday from the office of State Assembly Speaker V. Sivakumar directing him to meet the committee today.

“Dr Abdul Rahman is to see the committee at the Speaker’s office at 3pm,” the official said.

The official explained that the gate to the building had not been locked but merely closed as advised by the police for security reasons.

He added that a sitting on March 3 would have been illegal if allowed, as the Sultan of Perak had not consented to it.

“This is a desperate attempt by the Speaker to stop this Thursday’s assembly sitting from taking place,” the official said.

“Yesterday, it was Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir who was accused of using a bomoh to cast a spell on the Speaker’s seat. Today, it is something else.

“(Pakatan Rakyat) is trying all sorts of things to stop the assembly sitting.”

When contacted, Sivakumar declined to confirm calling Dr Abdul Rahman but said he would reveal everything today.
