Ronnie Liu challenges Khir Toyo to public debate

(NST) – Selangor executive councillor Ronnie Liu yesterday challenged former menteri besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo to a public debate, following recent comments Khir made against him.

Liu said a public debate would be the right place to discuss issues and clear the air. "He can reveal anything he wants during the debate and I will also raise issues about him."

Khir recently called on Liu to step down as state executive councillor until his court case was over. The former menteri besar had also said that as Liu was holding the portfolio of local government, witnesses would be intimidated to take the stand in the case.

Liu was charged in court last year for abetment in obstructing an enforcement assistant from closing a hotel in Puchong in 2007. He had pleaded not guilty and his trial begins on Feb 10.
