Solve our problems, PKR Indians tell leaders
(The Star) KUALA LUMPUR: Indians in PKR wants the party leaders, especially de facto head Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to solve the problems of their community.
The party’s informal Indian liaison committee member P. Jenapala said they would try to arrange a meeting with Anwar this month.
“We will list down our problems, and we trust that he will solve them,” he told reporters after holding a committee meeting here yesterday.
The hour-long meeting among the party’s Indian community leaders was held to discuss whether Indian PKR members should stay in the party or leave to form another party.
Also present was Kapar MP S. Manikavasagam, who had earlier tendered his resignation as Selangor PKR deputy liaison chairman.
“We have come to the conclusion that no one from the party leaves. We are all with the party. Whatever the differences, whatever problems faced by the Indian community, we will solve within the party. A meeting will be arranged with Datuk Seri Anwar,” Jenapala said.
Asked what they would do should their problems remain unsolved, he said: “We will wait for the meeting (with Anwar) first.”
Jenapala explained that the community wanted more positions in the five Pakatan Rakyat states, especially Selangor, as well as positions in government-linked companies.
He was also visibly upset that the party’s Indian leaders – namely PKR vice-president Sivarasa Rasiah (the MP for Subang), Selangor exco member Dr Xavier Jeyakumar and PKR supreme council member N. Gobalakrishnan (Padang Serai MP) – were not present for the committee meeting.
“They should be here. They are representing all of us. Why are they not here?” he asked.
