Pakatan Harapan’s one country two systems

Yes, old wine in a new bottle. ‘Old’ Malaysia versus ‘New’ Malaysia is the same difference. Criticise my enemies then you are my hero. Criticise me then you are zero. That is what the Pakatan Harapan people will tell you. This is not about truth. It is about what I like to hear. So just say nice things about me.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

It is very hard to shed old habits. Pakatan Harapan’s ‘new’ Malaysia appears to have the same old habits as the ‘old’ Malaysia, lamented Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Well, what do you expect when you put old wine in a new bottle. You can fool the coke drinkers, but wine connoisseurs just need to gurgle the wine without even swallowing it to know the quality.

A Muslim will look at Islam from a Muslim’s perspective. A Christian will look at Christianity from a Christian’s perspective. Hence goes for the Jew, Hindu, Buddhist, Taoist, etc. When you look at things from the standpoint of your belief system, you see only the good and never the bad.

In Pakatan Harapan’s ‘new’ Malaysia, you can only attack the opposition, not the government

For example, how many of those from the Abrahamic faiths (or what Islam calls ‘people of the book’) are prepared to admit that slavery is ‘legal’ or halal? In fact, a slave owner can even have sex with his slave (it is not considered zina and you will not be stoned to death). And does the Holy Book not tell us that the Father of the Abrahamic faiths, Abraham, had sex with his wife’s slave who gave birth to Ismail (Ishmael) — who together with Abraham built the Ka’ba?

In the UK, a footballer who says that gays are going to hell will be kicked out of the team. Why must a football team sack a player who says that gays are going to hell? Is this not what the Bible says? So, he is just saying what the Bible says? Why call him homophobic and sack him?

The Bible (New Testament) also says Jesus is the Son of God. If a footballer were to say Jesus is the Son of God would he be kicked out of the team? And why not? If he quotes the part from the Bible that says gays go to hell, he will get sacked, but if he quotes the part from the Bible that says Jesus is the Son of God, he will not get sacked. Why these two different systems?

It is okay to attack and vilify Najib but never criticise Mahathir or Anwar

The truth is people just want to hear some things but not all things. If the thing is pleasant to hear then say it. But if the thing is not pleasant to hear then do not say it. The truth does not matter. Both the pleasant and unpleasant things may be the truth. But this is not what counts.

Pakatan Harapan’s ‘new’ Malaysia is still the one country two systems of the ‘old’ Malaysia. You can say nice things about the government (meaning the Pakatan Harapan government) but not bad things. If you say negative things about the Pakatan Harapan government they will vilify and crucify you. And that is Pakatan Harapan’s interpretation of freedom of speech.

After almost ten years and thousands upon thousands of nasty comments made about me and my entire family, I have sort of got used to accepting this as an occupational hazard. Of course, most of what they say about me are not true but these Pakatan Harapan people do not care whether what they say is true or not. The purpose is not to state the truth but to disparage.

When the Palace criticises Najib or Umno, they are hailed as heroes

Take the Johor Palace issue as a case in point. In the ‘old’ Malaysia, when His Majesty the Sultan (Tuanku) or the Tunku Mahkota (TMJ) criticised the Prime Minister or the Barisan Nasional government, the rakyat clapped and cheered. Any Ruler or Crown Prince who tegur or criticised the politicians/government were hailed as defenders of the rakyat. Malaysians said thank God we have the Monarchy, the best thing that ever happened to Malaysia.

But in the ‘new’ Malaysia, when Tuanku and/or TMJ criticises the Prime Minister or the Pakatan Harapan government, they whack the Monarchy, propose turning Malaysia into a republic, say that maintaining the Monarchy is a waste of money, and so on. You should see the insults against the Monarchy over the last few weeks.
