Chow mulls legal action against Raja Petra on undersea tunnel issue

(The Edge Markets) – Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow is considering lodging a police report against blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin over his statements which alleged elements of corruption in the undersea tunnel project.

Chow said the statement made by Raja Petra on the implementation of the undersea tunnel project had impacted his 32-year political career.

“I am sad when my name was mentioned for the first time in my 32-year political career. We have discussed the actions which could be taken by us including making a police report, filing the case in court or waiting for the authorities to investigate.

“So far I have not been called for questioning or have my statement taken. In fact Konsortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd (Zenith) senior executive director, Datuk Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli had made clear statements on the matter and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had lodged police report over the allegations,” he told a media conference here today.

Raja Petra in a series of articles posted in a portal claimed Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and four Penang State Exco members received bribes in the undersea tunnel project.

He also alleged the expose was obtained from MACC investigation papers on the construction of the RM6.3 billion tunnel.

Following Raja Petra’s articles, MACC was reported to have lodged a police report on an investigation paper leak.
