Pakatan Harapan U-turn to support Anwar as Prime Minister, again
(New Malaysia Times) – Pakatan Harapan’s Presidential Council announced today that they are now committed to support the original plan of making PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister in its effort to rest Putrajaya back from Perikatan Nasional.
In a statement today, the council stated that they unanimously agreed to reject Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s motion to dismiss Tan Sri Ariff Yusuf as the Speaker of Parliament and DAP’s Nga Kor Ming as Deputy Speaker.
The statement also stated that they are consistent with the stand that the Federal and State government focus should be to help the people in fighting off COVID19 pandemic, and therefore should a snap election is called prematurely, the states currently governed by Pakatan Harapan would continue and state government will not be dissolved.
Back to support Anwar
The statement also stated of their return to supporting Anwar Ibrahim as Pakatan’s Prime Minister candidate.
“The Presidential Council also discussed efforts to restore Pakatan Harapan back as the federal government, and are committed with the original stand of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the Prime Minister candidate, and we also discussed the motion to nominate Warisan’s Shafie Apdal as Prime Minister,” the statement said.
Shafie had previously been nominated as Prime Minister candidate after Pakatan’s bid to nominate two-times Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad had hit a wall with PKR refusing to budge from backing Anwar.
The presidential council also gave their full mandate to Anwar to continue discussion with everyone including Shafie to open another back door to Putrajaya.
Pakatan had previously criticized Anwar for meeting up with those involved in bringing down the Pakatan Harapan government in February.
Anwar was said to have met with Bersatu’s Hamzah Zainuddin, who is now Home Minister.
